The US policy stance favoring fossil fuels has Tesla scanning the landscape for new opportunities. Knowing that by 2050 at least 66% of the world’s population will be living in cities, Tesla has decided to create an urban planning firm with a focus on sustainability in emerging markets called LeapFrog Labs. While the Tesla core products have remained profitable, their Space-X program is bringing in revenue from venture capital firms and government contracts, especially after Trump’s interest in renewing the space wars as part of #MAGA. Because Tesla is still bringing in a healthy margin, LeapFrog Labs is established as a B Corporation to signal that LeapFrog Labs is looking toward meeting the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit. LeapFrog is on a mission to make things better at a cost that is attainable for emerging markets. LeapFrog Labs is a chance to put Tesla ingenuity, engineering, and design know-how to the test as it tackles designing infrastructure solutions to rapidly developing and emerging cities across the globe.
